How does LED Phototherapy work?

LED Phototherapy uses colour wavelengths of visible light which have specific rejuvenating benefits within the skin. Your skin cells have the ability to absorb light and use it as a source of energy to fuel the repair and rejuvenation of damaged cells or kill bacteria. It is a natural biochemical reaction similar to that of plant photo-synthesis.

The increased energy works to enhance cellular metabolism, which in turn stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, boosts circulation and accelerates tissue repair. Studies have shown that when skin is exposed to LED light, skin cells regenerate themselves on average 150% to 200% faster and hydration can be increased by up to 600%. This whole process often results in radiant, naturally healthy skin that looks more youthful.

LED Red Light is used for skin rejuvenation, anti-ageing and healing. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin, which is good news if you suffer from rosacea, psoriasis or eczema.

LED Blue Light is beneficial for acne and congested skin because it has powerful antibacterial properties that can normalise oil production and purify your pores.

LED Combined Red & Blue Light is ideal if you have sensitive, problematic skin. It is proven to be one of the most effective treatments for inflammatory acne and scarring currently available.

What happens during the treatment?

Before we begin treatment, we will carefully cleanse your skin. We’ll then give you protective eyewear, which you should keep on throughout the procedure. All you need to do then is lie back and relax while the Dermalux works its magic for approximately 20 minutes.

LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive and pain-free treatment that promotes a feeling relaxation and wellbeing whilst rejuvenating the skin. Exposure to the light can increase serotonin levels which in turn help to relive stress, tension and headaches. Any feeling of ‘heat’ is most often due to the stimulation of blood circulation.

How often can I have it done?

With LED Phototherapy, the results are cumulative and you should continue to see improvements for several months after the treatment has stopped. How many treatments you need will depend on your age, skin type and skin condition. You will see the best results if you opt for a number of treatments in quick succession. We may also advise you to consider maintenance treatments to ensure long-lasting results.

That being said, a single session of Dermalux™ LED Phototherapy is an ideal ‘pick me up’ to replenish vital skin hydration, restore radiance or simply to calm irritated skin.

We will discuss an individual treatment plan with you during your initial consultation. Results of LED Phototherapy can be enhanced when used in combination with treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Skin Peels, Micro-Needling and Laser treatments.

What can I expect immediately after treatment?

Immediately after your LED Phototherapy treatment, you can expect your skin to have a healthy and radiant glow. In fact, after just one treatment, it should look visibly hydrated, plump and healthy, with any redness and irritation noticeably calmed.

After your treatment, you should apply suitable skin care products, including a sunscreen. We will discuss this with you during your initial consultation. Make-up can then be applied as usual.
